  • Lead Hand Labourer

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Coordination of employees and assigning duties to employees while on a worksite
    • Be punctual and dependable.
    • Follow direction from your foreman or supervisor.
    • Perpetuate quality workmanship and honesty.
    • Perform all duties with a general awareness of safety and hazards. Abide by GLVT safety program.
    • Perform skilled manual labour including but not limited to raking, shoveling, wheel barrowing, sweeping, etc..
    • Operate and maintain various hand and power tools.
    • Complete pre-start checks on equipment and job checklists.
    • Assisting in the administration of personnel functions
    • Driving a work truck when required on-site safety coordination
    • Ensuring adherence to safety protocols on worksites
    • Progress reporting
    • Quality inspection
    • Reporting of any necessary maintenance
    • Assist with creating specifications and plans
    • Shadow the foreman, improve your skillset, teach others.

    WORKING EXPECTATIONS

    • Working outside consistently with exposure to all seasonal weather conditions in a physically demanding environment.
    • Long hours including overtime (up to 12-hour days), all days of the week, including weekends, and possibly for periods of 14-21 days straight
    • Work in areas with minimal access to amenities
    • Work all over Western Canada, or in remote locations (based in Edmonton)
    • Employees will supply PPE - CSA certified Steel Toe Safety Boots
    • Employees are required to wear pants /jeans and long sleeve or at least 4” sleeve shirt/ t-shirt.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Minimum 3 years construction experience with emphasis on landscaping, concrete, carpentry, planting, or assembling.
    • Must be able to lift up to 30 kilograms and carry up to 100 metres
    • Must be willing to fulfil Working Expectations listed above.
    • Must have their own vehicle, a valid class 5 driver licence and provide their own transportation to Edmonton and surrounding area. Transportation for out-of-town work will be provided.
    • Good communication skills
    • Must have a personal phone with data to use our time management and scheduling app.
    • Experienced labourers must have at minimum skid steer experience, with other equipment experience preferred.
    • Experienced labourers must have experience with safely loading and securing equipment and supplies
    • Experienced labourers must have a good driving record and be willing to provide a driver’s abstract

    ASSETS

    • First Aid, CPSI CAN -Z14 certificate, or other valid safety certifications
    • High school diploma or equivalent or any post-secondary education
    • Experience working outdoors
    • Landscaping experience
    • Experience in playground, spray park, or park space construction
    • Experience operating construction equipment
    • Experience operating truck and trailer
    • Reading grade stakes or construction drawings
    • Experience using a laser level

    SALARY

    Full-time Labourers - $24-28/hour depending on any related experience as determined by GLV management.

  • Foreman

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    Key Responsibilities:

    The responsibilities of the Foreman include, but are not limited to:

    • Be a dependable teammate.
    • Assist in the planning and execution of the park or recreational construction project.
    • Lead and direct people, equipment, and resources in all phases of the project’s construction.
    • Being hands-on in the field and involved in all aspects of project construction including on-site training and competency checking new and upcoming employees.
    • Engage in open communication with the Superintendent and Project Managers and report any issues which could affect the project plan.
    • Organize and coordinate the daily activities of all crew members and utilize corrective action to keep the project on time and on budget.
    • Plan work in an efficient and effective order, review and adhere to construction schedules, ensuring milestones and completion dates are met.
    • Ensure company equipment is lawfully operated, cared for, maintained and used effectively.
    • Read and interpret project plans and specifications.
    • Promote, execute, and adhere to the company’s safety program, and ensure all employees, subcontractors and consultants adopt safety as a culture.
    • Follow the company's core values, vision, policies, and procedures.

    Qualifications and Skills

    • Class 5 Driver’s License is required.
    • Criminal Record check is required.
    • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Foreman (preference given to experience in playgrounds, spray parks, or general landscape construction.)
    • Knowledge of landscape construction methods, park construction materials and industry requirements.
    • Must have extensive skid steer experience.
    • CET, AutoCAD Experience is considered an asset.
    • Installation crew Foreman experience (i.e., windows, doors, fences, flooring, concrete, irrigation, landscaping, horticulture) is considered an asset.
    • A Trade ticket would be considered an asset High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred.

    Working Conditions

    • Out-of-town travel is required.
    • Overtime as required.
    • Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry up to 50 LBS on a regular basis.
    • Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required.
    • Must comply with the company’s drug and alcohol requirements.

    Salary and Benefits

    • Foreman - $28 - $40/hour depending on experience, as determined by GLVT management, and a field test (required for top wages).
    • Benefits can be provided after 90 days.

    • Opportunity to work with and learn some heavy machinery including skid steers, gas axes & excavators.

    WORKING EXPECTATIONS

    • Working outside consistently with exposure to all seasonal weather conditions in a physically demanding environment.
    • Long hours including overtime (up to 12-hour days), including weekends as required depending on the project demand.
    • Work all over Alberta, or in remote locations (based in Edmonton)
    • PPE (personal protective equipment) and safety supplies will be provided by GLVT. The only exception is CSA-certified Steel Toe Boots, which the employee will need to bring.
    • Employees are required to wear pants /jeans and a sleeved shirt, a minimum 4” long.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Must be physically fit and be able to lift up to 50lbs or 22kgs.
    • Must have their own vehicle, a valid class 5 driver’s licence and provide their own transportation to various locations in the Greater Edmonton area.
    • Good communication skills.

    QUALIFICATIONS FOR EXPERIENCED LABOURERS

    • Skid steer experience, with additional equipment experience preferred.
    • Experience with safely loading and securing equipment and supplies.
    • A clean driving record and be willing to provide a driver’s abstract.
    • Assets Preferred but not required: First Aid, CPSI CAN -Z14 certificate, or other valid safety certifications
    • High school diploma or equivalent or any post-secondary education
    • Landscaping experience
    • Experience with park or recreational construction
    • Commercial or industrial construction experience
    • Experience operating truck and trailer

    SALARY

    Full-time Labourers - $20-24/hour
